1. Regular Dusting and Vacuuming – Surface dusting is the most frequent task done during the cleaning of wood panels. Wiping the wood panels with a soft cloth or vacuuming with the soft brush, helps remove surface dirt and debris, thus making it easier to move into the next step of the routine.

2. Wiping using Specific Cleaners – There are specific cleaners for wood panels and it best recommended that one use them over usual cleaners to prevent damage to the wood. Starting from the top to avoid drip lines, using the cleanser wash a section of the wall with a soft sponge. With another sponge dipped in clean water, rinse the wall. Next, buff dry the wall with a clean, soft cloth.

3. Removing Grease and Covering Minor Scratches – Dabbing a clean cloth with mineral spirits and rubbing on the affected area to clean off any grease. Since, mineral spirits are highly flammable, keep the windows open while working with them and avoid using them on panels with paper surfaces and thin veneers on them.

4. Polishing & Maintenance – Oil polishing gives the wood panels a nice shine, while also restoring wood paneling that has dried out. As the last step in the cleaning process one should wash the wall with a sponge dipped in the polishing solution and then buff the wall with a microfiber cloth. The oil or polish should be applied quarterly or bi-yearly, depending on the interior climate of your home.

Apart from this cleaning routine for finished wall panels, one must also take care of cleaning and maintaining unfinished wall panels by brushing them with a microfiber cloth. Raw wood panels must be efficiently maintained as they can quickly get stained and absorb moisture.
